Your first presentation

Create or Download the example file

If you are in a hurry, or if you are lazy, download the example file below and open it with Inkscape (right-click on the image below and choose “Save image as…”).

Example SVG base document

If you prefer to do it yourself, start a new document and draw some elements for your presentation.

Example SVG base document, opened in Inkscape

Draw the frame boundaries

Draw a rectangle for each frame of your presentation. Scale or rotate it to define the boundaries of each frame.

SVG document with frame boundaries

Open the frame editor

Select the rectangle for the first frame. In the “Extensions” menu, select “Sozi”.

Open Sozi from the "Extensions" menu

Two windows will open:

  • The window with the message “Sozi working, please wait…” and the “Cancel” button indicates that Inkscape is temporarily blocked until Sozi terminates. Do not use the “Cancel” button.
  • The window titled “sozi.py” contains the user interface of the frame editor.

Windows opened by Sozi

When you start Sozi with a new document, the presentation script will be automatically installed into the document. Later, each time you reopen Sozi with the same document, Sozi will update the script using the latest version installed on your computer.

Edit your frames

:!: In Sozi 11.10 and later versions, the “Save” button has been removed. All modifications are saved automatically.

The edit form contains three sections:

Transition

  • Duration (ms): the duration of the transition between the previous frame and the current one, in milliseconds.
  • Profile: the speed profile for this transition (linear, accelerate, decelerate, accelerate then decelerate).

Frame

  • Title: the title of the current frame as it will appear in the navigation menu.
  • Hide: check this box to hide the rectangle during the presentation.
  • Clip: check this box to clip the display area to the frame boundaries.
  • Timeout (ms): if this box is checked, the presentation will go to the next frame automatically after the given time, in milliseconds. If this box is unchecked, only a key or mouse event will allow to go to the next frame.

Frame list

The right panel contains the list of all frames in your document. At this time, it should be empty.

When you have created some frames, the frame list will allow you to select existing frames that you wish to modify or reorder. When modifying transition and frame properties, save your changes using the “Save” button.

Example

In this example, we stick to the default settings.

An example frame setup

Fill the form and press the “New” button. The frame list now contains the title of the new frame.

Close the “sozi.py” window to go back to Inkscape. You can do this by clicking the “Close” button in the title bar.

Create the other frames, save the document and open it in your favorite web browser.

Here is the completed SVG document:

Complete example presentation.
